There isn't actually a conventional way to set out a contents page by the looks of it after looking at many contents pages in many existing magazines of any type.
My favourite part of my contents page is how everything seems to blend into each other, and although everything apart from one photo is very dark, that one bight photo emphasises that that photo has something to do with the main article story in the magazine so it stands out a lot. If i were to make a real magazine this would be a continual conventional of that magazine- the main story would stand out the most on the content page, so then a regular reader would know to flick straight to the context page and straight away be able to see what page the main article is on.
